In our days, the western view about dance, where the recreational element dominates, slowly affects the sub conscience of Greeks. Greeks today try to adopt movements and rythms that do not belong in the cultural environment of their own origin.

Hellenism, carrying a culture of another class, gave different meaning and symbolism in its dance. The circular dances that have been developed and propagated at the neighboring populations via Hellenism are connected with ancient popular religion. The dance became around the worship of god. This worship, something holy, should have been encircled and protected from the circle of

dancers.

This is why the Greek dance is evolved as an experience, as an activity, as a feast, as a community gathering, as a continuity of a defined and predetermined ceremony.
